On February 14, 2007, Jodine Elizabeth Serrin, a 39 year-old mentally challenged woman, was found murdered in her Carlsbad condominium located in the 1900 Block of Sallow Lane. 
It took over 11 years to solve Jodine’s senselessly murdered. A tremendous amount of on-going investigative went into the effort. Leads developed through good investigative work and tips from the public were pursued and advancements in forensic science capabilities were utilized. The Carlsbad Police Department was assisted by multiple law enforcement agencies, consultants and the news media throughout this investigation. The use of genetic genealogy ultimately resulted in this case being solved in November of 2018.
